DeSean Jackson fires back at Angelo Cataldi over back to sports tweet originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia
As the entire country deals with some heavy topics about race, police brutality and the need for equal rights, WIP's Angelo Cataldi wondered aloud on Wednesday morning if the sports world could get back to sports.
After less than a week of protests in the country, Cataldi wants a distraction.
Lots of strong political statements yesterday from sports figures. OK, great. Is it too soon to ask - very politely - for all of these people to focus now on what they do best? The anger in America might just calm down a bit if we all had a game to watch.
— Angelo Cataldi (@AngeloCataldi) June 3, 2020Earlier this week, Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson gave a speech to his teammates that was so powerful it motivated Jason Kelce to speak out. And then in a lengthy and emotional interview with NBC Sports Philadelphia's John Clark, Jackson spoke bluntly about his own experiences with racism and about how he thinks the country can move forward.
Jackson is trying to use his platform to make a difference, so he predictably wasn't happy with Cataldi's tweet.
I think you need to watch your mouth & fix your hands to tweet something positive about what's going on in our world and community's for positivity and help change the narrative!!
— Desean Jackson (@DeSeanJackson10) June 4, 2020It's people like you who have no respect & no clue of what's going on. Use your voice for the influence of power, & help what's going on in our society. before you speak on this serious topic !
— Desean Jackson (@DeSeanJackson10) June 4, 2020Good for DeSean.
I don't want to take anything away from Cataldi, who has worked very hard to have the longevity in this market that he has, but this is an irresponsible use of his platform.
Look, we all need distractions. And there's no greater distraction than sports. I get all that. But read the freakin' room. There are athletes in the City of Philadelphia - athletes the city cheers for on the field, court and ice - using their platforms to at least try to effect change. Those people deserve our admiration.
To ask if the sports guys can get back to sportsing is asking them to remove their humanity. It's asking them to shut up and dribble and that's not fair.
If Cataldi wants to use his platform to talk about all the sports that aren't being played right now, so be it. But he asked if it's too soon and, yes, absolutely it is.

More on the Eagles
Desean Jackson was cooking folks for years at the same size Lmao devonta smith runs better routes too
Desean Jackson on Twitter
@pedrocory34 Eu não sei se é pelo tipo físico, mas sim o DeSean Jackson teve muita lesão.
@tomecurran High school teams have WRs bigger than that. Obv Smith is a freak athlete but only DeSean Jackson has had any kind of NFL success at that weight.
Desean Jackson was 5’9 166 coming outta cal and has done fine
For everyone Saying D Jack while talking about Smitty I get he had a good career but he is injury prone as a mf
Desean Jackson was cooking folks for years at the same size Lmao devonta smith runs better routes too
@Your_Flyness You want another Tyreek Hill or Desean Jackson? “Nahhh we good he liddle lol”
@JimStamm22 He reminds me of DeSean Jackson. A very good receiver but a notch below the elite #1 WR like Julio Jones, Davante Adams, DeAndre Hopkins and Julian Edelman.
@CSimmsQB DeSean Jackson was even more skinny coming out of college than Devonta Smith and he did just fine.
@theScore Nah. We’ve seen guys like Darren Sproles play RB where he is going to get hit a lot more than a WR or guys like Tyreke Cohen, Jakeem Grant, DeSean Jackson, Deonte Harris, and maybe a few more that are ok in the league. Why is it such a big deal now?!
@MyTweetsLie And ppl forget that players like Desean Jackson thrived in the league for a long time and he was smaller than 166 I believe.
@MySportsUpdate @AlbertBreer Desean Jackson weighed 169 pounds coming out. I feel pretty confident that Smith will have a nice career.
@lennyhadley @thomasrp93 Desean jackson had elite speed. Was a burner. Devonta relies on alot of routes in the middle, its a bit different.
@Infante54 i mean desean jackson was productive for a good like 9-10 years, not really a great example
People are overly concerned about Devonte Smith’s weight. Desean Jackson weighed 169lbs. when he was drafted. Everyone that passed on him for that reason missed out on a special young DJack.
He is a heck of a WR but that he is super light in the pants for the next level. DeSean Jackson was 169 at the combine.
@thomasrp93 Desean Jackson for years was a terrorizing threat to defenses at a whopping 160-170 lbs. and frankly Smith seems like he’s a more polished weapon than Jackson was coming out.
Marvin Harrison: 6’0” 180lbs. Round 1 pick 19. Desean Jackson: 5’11” 169lbs. Round 2 pick 49. Weight is a problem, but it’s not everything. Dude won the Heisman. Sucks his weight will probably keep him out of the top 15
@firedad065 That’s the question isn’t it! And what’s his true upside? He isn’t Desean Jackson-like as he doesn’t play that same way or possess the same speed. His play style comps are all 20-30 lbs heavier than him. I’d still take him early 2nd in rookie drafts though!
@Swapbreh @EliotShorrParks How much weight did Desean Jackson gain during his career?
@igotznochill @theScore I watched Desean Jackson cook for years early on with the Eagles, and he never sniffed a Heisman.
That is not an NFL sized WR. He needs to put on weight or he will become another DeSean Jackson riddled with injuries.
@RobbieDuncanOL Desean Jackson played at 175ish so it can be done but he has to protect himself
@ElvinRyan_FF I hear you but that makes me think about Desean Jackson. And I HATE DeSean Jackson.
@eric_crocker Desean Jackson was 5’10 and 169. Ppl killin me actin like this is a big deal.

@MikeGiardi Well, Desean Jackson is a pretty great comp. He came in around 169 lbs, and was an immediate impact.
@ProFootballTalk Will probably have trouble staying healthy, similar to DeSean Jackson. Adobe cs5 free download mac. Hard to withstand a hit from an NFL safety at that weight
The only comparable weight to DeVonta Smith is DeSean Jackson who weighed in at 169 during his combine. Jackson is also about three inches shorter. The injury risk with Smith is going to be massive his weight is almost unprecedented.
Desean Jackson News
DeVonta Smith gonna be a bucket “he won’t get off the line in the pros” but DeSean Jackson and Will Fuller do it just fine
Dashaun Jackson
@PapaStew80 @AlbertBreer Desean Jackson weighed in at 169 at his combine. Probably the closest comp I can think of that had success in the NFL.
